"Keep your head down. There's two of us in here now, remember?"
First worn to MegaCon 2005
Price wise this one cost about $100
Worked on this for a very long time
Oh man, where to start with this one. Out of the three Cortana costumes this one went though the most upgrades, fixed it up twice since I originally "finished" it.
In order to figure out the patterns on her body I played through Halo and recorded all of the scenes that she was in. I then passed the tape onto a friend of mine who then sketched out the designs onto a unitard that I had purchased. It was a rough sketch but enough to get the general idea and begin painting it. Why I thought using acrylic paint is beyond me all these years later, but I did. I then purchased a pair of white gloves and toe socks that I also painted to match the suit. As for the wig I have gone through two of them and never really been happy with how either looked. I also went through two different face paints before I found one that worked best for me. I always wear contacts and fake eye lashes with this costume since my eyes tend to get "lost" in all the purple paint.
Meeting Eric Nylund at Comic Con
At Comic Con 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Eric Nylund, author of many of the Halo novels. Lucky for me he was having a signing the day I wore Cortana, and I was lucky to have my photo taken with him and a Master Chief. While I was in line for the signing, a booth worker tells me to stick around because a Master Chief cosplayer was coming out soon. So I made my way up to Eric and introduced myself to him, and then he tells me that he recognizes me from Halo.Bungie.Org, to me that is just another reason to have a fan girl moment. Right before he could sign my book the MC comes out and everyone in lines starts going nuts. Eric asks for a picture with both of us and that turned into another "5 minute posing moment" Eric, myself and MC. He signs my book and I am on cloud 9 at this point, as I start to walk away people are asking for more pictures. So I stop and pose for them, and its very odd cause I have never had a costume get a response like this before. I ended up asking the MC for another picture and of course he said yes, so I got a few more which made myself and many others happy. After this I just stood around taking it all in and really enjoying myself. |
