Joel
The Last of Us
- First worn to a summer photo shoot
- Spent around $35
- Finished this in one night
Oh Joel, I can count the many ways you stole my heart in this game. Whether it was you being a bad ass, or being a big teddy bear defending Ellie, you rank up there with Master Chief in my book. So of course it was a no brainier that I would make this costume for Trevor.
I went front thrift store to thrift store trying to find the perfect shirt for summer Joel. In the end I couldn't find anything with the right colors or right kid of plaid. I got a plain green shirt and I hand drew every line of plaid onto it with a fabric marker. The backpack came from Target, the shoes from Goodwill, the pants were out of the closet.
To really get the look of the game I had to dirty everything up and this was definitely fun. I used earth tone eye shadows to make the pants and shirts look like they hadn't been washed in a while. To make the shirt and pants look sweat stained I applied globs of Vaseline and worked it into the fabric.
Since Trevor can't grow an actual beard because of his line of work I had to get a fake one for him. The beard/mustache was purchased from a costume shop and ended up being black, so we had to spray paint in brown. We added gray highlights to both the wig and facial hair with a white eyeliner pencil.
