Megara
Disney's Hercules
- First worn to Anime Festival Orlando
- Spent around $35 on the costume and $55 on the wig
- Worked on this costume over the course of 3 weeks
Trevor and I were watching this movie one night while eating dinner and he made the suggestion that we should cosplay from it. This is one of those Disney movies that we both love and feel is totally under rated. I remember being a little kid and loving the fact that Meg was sassy and had an attitude about her that wasn't typical with Disney females.
JoAnn's was really against me on this costume as they never seemed to have the right color satin in stock. I ended up getting a satin crepe instead of just a basic satin, it was the right color with just a bit of a texture to it. I literally sewed a long rectangle and hemmed it at the top and bottom for the dress. It was then a matter of taking in the back hem so that it fit correctly on my body. I added the straps and attached gold buttons to the front of them. For the sashes I used purple satin, both sashes were lined in craft fuse to give them some body. The hip sash is held in place with sticky back velcro and I used another gold button to hold the hanging portion in place.
I ordered the Jeannie wig from Arda and Dee was nice enough to style the bangs on it. I would definitely recommend taking the advice of Arda and altering the base wig so that it fits snugly on your head. It was definitely a challenge keeping the base on my head once we attached the pony tail clip in. Thankfully Ari and Dee were a tremendous help and we managed to pull it off.
Looking back at this costume I am very happy with it but I would love to fix up a few things. I definitely want to get the under bust sash to stay up a little bit higher and maybe add the front seams on the dress.
