- First worn at MegaCon 2009
- Price wise I spent $45
- Worked on this for two weeks
I needed a last minute costume for MegaCon, something easy to make and fun to wear. I was in the midst of catching up with the Naruto manga and for some reason I really liked Karin. Maybe it's her crazy obsession with Sasuke or her lop sided hair style, either way I decided to giver her costume a try.
After looking around I was able to find a pattern for a high collared button up shirt, with some modifying it was the perfect match. I purchased the pattern and some lavender cotton from Wal-Mart along with a matching zipper. To begin with I sewed together most of the shirt and then I cut out the pieces in the front and back to give it that A line peak. Then I added the zipper, my first time using a separating one and I love it, and made sure it went all the way up to the collar. For the collar I lined that in felt to keep it stiff and standing up, I tend to use felt instead of interfacing for some reason. The shorts were a lucky find at the thrift store and I used some sandals that I had laying around the house.
For the stockings I actually had to go to an adult boutique to get black thigh high stockings that were NOT see thorough. I pulled the stockings over the sandal and then cut out a piece for the toes to peek out. I sewed the stocking to the sandal and covered to bottom with fun foam to give it some grip. Under those stockings I made sure to wear black high thighs just to keep any skin from showing through and they were held up with fashion tape.
The wig was cut and styled by the fabulous Dee who is just a goddess with wigs. And those are my actual glasses that I wore, not many opportunities to wear my glasses while cosplaying.
