I wanted to make another X-2 Rikku costume, so I flipped through the strategy guide to get inspired. I looked at the samurai costume and pretty much planned out in my head how it could be made. The next time I played the game I tried out the samurai class and knew instantly that I had to make the costume.
Lets start out by saying that I made this costume before I had a sewing machine, therefor the entire thing was sewn by hand. I used a pattern for the robe and for the sleeves, the under skirt I free handed. It took three days to sew the robe, skirt, sleeves and all of the trim. It wasn't difficult just very time consuming and frustrating, but like everything it was well worth it in the end. The shoulder and side armor was made out of foamies as well as the helmet. In order to get a good shape on the helmet I used a Darth Vader helmet and shaped it around that. The wig is broken down into a few parts; base wig, pony tail, top hair piece and braids. It all comes together nicely I think, but it is a lot of weight on your head especially when you add a helmet on top of it all.
The sword was something that my Dad and I made together. It is completely made out of wood, ribbon and foamie and it's made to scale. Yes, it is very heavy and yes it is annoying to lug around all day.
